hits, runs, and injections

This is a magical time of the year for those who fell in love with the game long ago at that first crack of a bat, thump of a glove, and pull of a syringe. Yes, it’s the subpoena preseason.

Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire and Jason Giambi are already off to a quick starts having been called to testify before congress regarding widespread steroid use among professional baseball players. It looks like these veterans are proving to their critics that they still have a thing or two to show those rookies.

Oh sure, there are those fans who don’t pay attention this early and say nothing really counts until indictments are handed down. But for those who really love the game, who relish in the statistics of who took the fifth, who filed a motion to dismiss, which of the cypionate or the enenthate forms of testosterone lead to superior strength gains, and all the other intricacies of the game that are a part of baseball’s charm, this is when the year really begins.
